Treteaux (2010-2013)

physical theater

A theatrical form that unearths innovative creativities and reveals that compelling performance can be achieved without extraneous elements. From a French word for "platform," treteaux consists of a small, 4. x 6 ft. stage on which four to seven actors are confined to perform a short, 10 minute or less piece based on the plot of a well-known epic story, and without set or props. Dramatically condensing the elements of rhythm, space, gesture, and text, and eliminating common crutches of theatrical lighting, electronic soundtracks, stage furniture and props, performers must rely on themselves and each other to evoke anything and everything. Treteaux champions the physical ability of the human body and the creative ingenuity of the human mind.
